  • Supplemented through self-directed learning

Self-directed Learning

Our self-directed learning will take place in three forms:

  1. Tasks - activities set out to develop new knowledge

  2. Quizzes - assesses knowledge covered in the course (pre-recorded and live sessions)

  3. Reflections - emotional links (a space to reflect on the knowledge gained)

Reading to Learn differs from other programs in a few significant ways.

What R2L is

The Reading to Learn programme for teaching reading and writing was developed in a long-term action research project with teachers in Australia at all levels of education, from early primary through to secondary and tertiary study, across curriculum areas.

The methodology was developed in response to urgent needs, particularly of marginalized learners, to rapidly improve reading and writing for educational access and success.

The R2L methodology was soon seen to be effective in all parts of the world where there are large gaps in achievement between the “top” learners and the “bottom” learners. In South Africa, this is especially important when one considers the continuing effects of segregated and unequal education systems and the ongoing differences between urban and rural, higher-income and lower-income schools.

Modules covered:

Module 4: Genre and language theory

Module 5: Assessment and feedback

Module 6: Read to learn and Technology

Further detail will be provided with confirmation of registration.
