Background to the guest speaker: 

  • Dr Marcelle Mentor - Marcelle is a lecturer in the English Education programme at Columbia University, United States of America.  Her academic interest focuses on Critical Race Theory, with an emphasis on Black Masculinity and teachers of colour in the classroom. 
     
    Marcelle embraces a teaching philosophy based on the humanistic approach that focuses on the fact that we are people through the existence and interaction with and from other people. Marcelle’s roots are proudly South African and as such she is intimately acquainted with the challenges of the classroom.
