About this Course

The target group for this professional development (PD) programme are teachers teaching Grade 4-6 Mathematics.

This is the first course in a series of 3, developed in collaboration with Head Office GET Curriculum SCP, Mr. Andre Lamprecht, and, the CTLI.

The content and interactive tasks and activities have been masterfully combined into user-friendly, easily downloadable Modules focussing on the new ATP and 2021 recovery plan supported by the CAPS Curriculum for Grades 4-6 in Term 1.

Experienced teacher trainers, Dr. Isabel Tarling and Dr. Erna Lampen, will guide you through online self-paced activities on the Moodle platform, and live presentation sessions, using a variety of teaching strategies and applications.

Participants will be able to collaborate and communicate in online sessions and a dedicated Whatsapp group.

The course consists of:

  • self-paced online: 6 x  1.5 hour modules

  • pre-and post-assessment.; 1 x task and evaluation form.

  • Live sessions: 2 x 1 hour 

Content will include:

  • How people learn-Three types of knowledge.

  • The stages of number concept development

  • Addition and subtraction problem types

  • Multiplication and division problem types

  • Making connections between the operations

  • From Arithmetic to properties of numbers and operations.
