Induction of Newly Appointed Principals A (Online Programme)
The course is aimed at principals and/or newly appointed principals from a full range of public schools.
The purpose of the interaction is to:
(i) inform the Principals as to the WCED's expectations of their professional role-responsibilities;
(ii) introduce possible new perspectives as to their professional functioning;
(iii) create the need to revisit present leadership and management practices;
(iv) provide guidance to re-construct present practices where necessary, especially within the "new normal" irt COVID-19 context, and
(v) generate thought-processes that would result in an improved environment for quality-based teaching and learning and institutional leadership.
The CTLI will endeavor to provide the participants with practical guidance on how a Principal is to realise improved teaching and learning and institutional leadership practices at school level.
Emphasis is on planning and effecting a teaching and learning environment aligned with the current curriculum and appropriate classroom management strategies within a COVID-19 context.
The professional development programme is self-paced and will be delivered through an online platform.
Modules covered:
Module 1: The Principal, Departmental Head (DH) and Deputy Principal (DP), and a values-driven school in a value-driven community.
Module 2: Legal Framework and the principal in a COVID-19 context.
Module 3: Job description of the Principal.
Module 4: Portfolio Management – Managing the Curriculum in COVID -19 context.
Module 5: Managing staff in a COVID-19 context.
Module 6: School-based data Management.
The professional development programme is self-paced and will be presented through an online platform.
The Google Classroom online platform will be used to deliver the online programme.
It is a self-paced programme that will require at least 45 minutes per Session.
The content of the programme will be facilitated through PowerPoint presentations readings, self-reflection tasks and online interaction with fellow course participants. You will also be afforded the opportunity to interact with Facilitators (Mentors) during specified times.
