About this Course

Workshop overview: This workshop is tailored for Further Education and Training (FET) teachers specializing in Mathematical Literacy, aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to set high-quality examination questions. With a focus on integrating cognitive levels effectively, the workshop aims to enhance the teachers' abilities to develop comprehensive and challenging question papers for the June examination.

Key Objectives:

  1. Understanding Cognitive Levels: The workshop begins with a thorough exploration of cognitive levels and their significance in designing examination questions. Teachers will learn how to align questions with different cognitive levels to assess students' understanding effectively.

  2. Analysis of Examination Requirements: Participants will analyze the examination requirements and guidelines for Mathematical Literacy, gaining insights into the specific skills and knowledge students are expected to demonstrate. This analysis will inform the development of targeted and relevant questions.

  3. Strategies for Question Design: Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, teachers will learn effective strategies for designing questions that assess various cognitive skills, such as comprehension, application, analysis, and synthesis. Emphasis will be placed on creating questions that encourage critical thinking and problem-solving.

  4. Incorporating Real-World Contexts: Teachers will explore ways to integrate real-world contexts into examination questions, making them more engaging and relevant to students. This approach not only enhances students' understanding but also emphasizes the practical applications of mathematical literacy.

  5. Group Review and Feedback: Participants will have the opportunity to engage in group review sessions, where they can share their question designs and receive constructive feedback from colleagues. This collaborative approach encourages reflection and refinement of question-setting skills.

  6. Aligning Questions with Curriculum Standards: The workshop will emphasize the importance of aligning examination questions with curriculum standards and learning objectives. Teachers will learn how to ensure that their questions accurately reflect the content and skills outlined in the curriculum.

  7. Practical Application: Throughout the workshop, participants will have opportunities to apply the concepts and techniques learned to the development of sample examination questions. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have a collection of high-quality questions ready for use in the June examination paper.

Mode of delivery: Face to Face
