About this Course

The target group for this professional development (PD) programme is course is permanently employed Deputy Principals. The PD programme explores the roles and responsibilities of Deputy Principals as managers of the academic curriculum, including leading and managing a whole school portfolio.

Authentic leadership and related issues such as staff performance management and human resource development, resources management and legal imperatives are also covered in this programme.

Emphasis is on planning and effecting a teaching and learning environment aligned with the current curriculum and appropriate classroom management strategies within a COVID-19 context.

The professional development programme is self-paced and will be delivered through an online platform.

Modules covered:

Module 1: The Principal, Departmental Head (DH) and Deputy Principal (DP), and a values-driven school in a value-driven community.

Module 2: Schooling Legal Framework in a COVID-19 context. 

Module 3: Job description and role definition of the DP.  

Module 4: Portfolio Management – Managing the Curriculum in COVID -19 context.

Module 5: Managing staff in a COVID-19 context.

Module 6: School-based data Management.

Module 7: Managing school-based resources

Additional to these Modules are:

  • E-Books & EDULIS Services
  • Psycho-Social Support

The professional development programme is self-paced and will be presented through an online platform.

The Google Classroom online platform will be used to deliver the online programme.

It is a self-paced programme that will require at least 45 minutes per Session.

The content of the programme will be facilitated through PowerPoint presentations readings, self-reflection tasks and online interaction with fellow course participants. You will also be afforded the opportunity to interact with Facilitators (Mentors) during specified times.
