Foundation Phase English First Additional Language (Grades R - 3) Course (20 SACE PD Points)

About this Course

Priority will be given to the 100 School Project.

The focus of the course is on the teaching and learning of English as a First Additional language to develop the teachers’ critical awareness of how to teach English First Additional Language and how to assist the learners to build literacy onto the Home language. The course is mainly for schools where children will use their additional language, English, as the Language of Learning and Teaching (LoLT) from Grade 4.

The course will cover strategies to motivate learners to speak English and to provide different ideas to accommodate the different learning styles of learners.

Teachers will be provided with classroom management ideas and techniques for presenting and practicing the language and checking the learners understanding of the language.

The course will focus on improving the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of learners.
