About this Course

 

The aim of the Creative Arts course is to deepen Grades 4 to 6 teachers' understanding and application of skills as described in the CAPS.

Teachers will experience and experiment with arts activities that will lay a strong foundation for them to teach the subject with confidence and gratification.

 

The practical activities focus on exploration of the four art forms, with an emphasis on meaningful integration possibilities in Dance, Drama and Music, as well as Visual Art. Participants will be exposed to creative and innovative ideas to plan, teach and assess the following topics as prescribed in the CAPS for Intermediate Phase Creative Arts:

 

Performing Arts

  • Warm up and Play

  • Improvise and Create

  • Read, Interpret and Perform

  • Appreciate and Reflect

     

    Visual Art

  • Visual Literacy

  • Create in 2D

  • Create in 3D

     

    Classroom management and the appropriate methodology for Creative Arts classes will be highlighted.  The course will capacitate teachers to teach the subject in a manner that enables learners to achieve the required skills and knowledge – while taking place in a safe and supportive classroom environment.
